Now,He is an acting professor of Radiology and Imaging Sciences,Emory University,a director of Yerkes Imaging Center,Yerkes National Primate Research Center and a research professor of Yerkes National Primate Research Center.
  Ischemic tissue suffers heterogeneous injury, including severely damaged ischemic core that often progresses to infarction, penumbral tissue of moderate disruption that may be salvaged with prompt treatment as well as mildly hypoperfused tissue at little risk of infarction. As such, it is crucial to image and identify salvageable penumbral tissue in order to properly guide stroke therapy, particularly at extended stroke onset time. Our recent data show that DKI captures the most severely injured DWI lesion. Herein, we further investigated acute ischemic stroke with both pH and DKI imaging, and found significantly different pH and T2 between the regions of DKI lesion and DWI/DKI mismatch. This confirms that DWI/DKI mismatch suffers less acidosis with elevated oxygen extraction fraction ratio (OEF) from DKI lesion, substantiating prior observation that DKI lesion is likely specific to ischemic core.
